My interview with: Senator Olivia Cajero Bedford

For my interview of someone at my work, I chose Senator Olivia Cajero Bedford, a Democrat from Legislative District 3 in Tucson. She has served in the Arizona Legislature for the past 12 years, 8 of which were in the House of Representatives, and 4 in the Senate.

Her main responsibilities as a Senator are to work on behalf of representing her constituents in the Senate and providing them a voice when critical legislation affecting them comes before the chamber. She fights for what she sees as right and will help her constituents, and works to provide their best navigation of government services. Senator Cajero Bedford is the daughter of two former Arizona House of Representatives, and has thus gained her inspiration from seeing her parents at work. While no formal education is needed to be elected senator, Senator Cajero Bedford received her Associates from Pima Community College, and her Bachelors in Tourism from the University of Arizona. Running for office is something that Olivia says needs advice in many different forms. She claims that the best way to run for office and win is to choose an issue that is important to you, and find out if its important to your would be constituents. If those two happen to match up, then rev up your energy and get out there and meet people in your community to broaden your name recognition. She notices that the current trends in Arizona politics as becoming more and more partisan by the year. She remembers a time when she was a kid where the Representatives, Democrat and Republican alike would work together on the chamber floor, then go grab a drink after a long days work. Now she says, that friendship and camaraderie is simply not there. I personally would be interested in this position, simply because I know that I’m very concerned about the future of not only this state, but our country as a whole, and running for office is one of the ways in which I can play a role in shaping that future.
